Inspire Arts was established in 2023 by The Supported Living Group to provide a platform for artists living with disabilities, to develop and showcase their talents, and increase their financial independence and recognition.
Our artists create with numerous mediums including, but not limited to, fine art, artisan products, creative journaling, textiles, embroidery, sewing, jewelry, glass painting, woodworking, and furniture restoration.
Artists work alongside each other in fully equipped creative studios maintained by our excellent staff members who are also artists. Experimentation and collaboration are encouraged when developing new products as well as personal work. We believe the arts spark imagination, fosters inclusion, and connects us to our communities.
“Before MJ became part of this program, he was becoming a recluse, even to his family. His first few weeks in the program were tough for both of us. Change is hard for him, but he persevered and after seeing the different styles of art, he could do, he looked forward to going. He was more engaged in conversation about each of his daily activities and he has even tried to get me to do some of the painting he has been shown. MJ's participation takes time and effort but is well worth it leading to his independence. My fear for his future is slowly dissipating as he progresses forward.” — Family Member of Artist
“Grace is a devoted wife, mother, and nursing student and her life took a sudden turn at the age of 41 due to a brain aneurysm and stroke. I was a 19-year-old sophomore at UConn when I heard the news and our family's lives were changed forever. This led to a challenging journey of recovery for her that included relearning how to walk, eat, and perform basic daily tasks. I left college to care for her, embarking on a nearly three-year journey to help Grace through a coma and extensive rehabilitation.
Despite the paralysis on her right side, Grace discovered a new passion for art, using her left hand to create meaningful and expressive pieces. She is determined to live life to the fullest. This art program has had a profoundly positive impact on Grace's life, keeping her active and mentally engaged, much like she was before her illness. Her journey through art has become a vital part of her recovery, inspiring not only to her family but also those who view her work.” — Family Member of Artist
